Lisa from Privilege blog has done it once again! I do believe this is one of my FAVORITE Polyvores! How DARLING! Please enjoy...Lilly...with a Twist.

Lilly had a baby shower to attend. She loved baby showers. She liked babies, for the most part, but she LOVED baby clothes. Oh. My. God. They were so cute! Those little ruffles, and little flowers, and little pinknesses? She could never resist buying at least two outfits as presents. And she always wanted to see photos later, her baby fashion choices in action.

But today she was having trouble figuring out what to wear. It was March. And out East, where her friend lived now, it appeared that winter hadn't yet surrendered to spring. Despite the snow on the ground, Lilly was determined to find a cheery outfit. Something colorful. Something...Lilly. But there was no way around the snow on the ground. Hmm. She had to start with her feet. The Lilly shoes just wouldn't work in the snow. But, wait, she had a wonderful pair of equestrian boots! Black. Comfy. Classic.

Now, add a pair of peacock tights, a Sabine shirtdress, and layer a pink turtleneck underneath. Yes! Good to go! Add a pink hat with pompoms and matching gloves, pull out the winter coat and a Murfee scarf, and Lilly felt ready to bring her customary cheer to the event. To heck with snow. On with the festivities.

Lilly Cheers the Winter Olympics!

Lilly loved the Olympics. Summer, winter, Asia, Europe, the Americas, she loved them all. The competition, the athletes' stories, the costumes. Even the theme songs. But her parents were old-fashioned. So old-fashioned they hadn't yet moved on to the glorious world of enormous, flat screen, HDTV. She especially loved to root on Team USA.

On Saturday, she settled herself onto the family room sofa, resigned to watching little bitty skaters and skiiers go round little bitty tracks and down little bitty hills. It was better than nothing, and Lilly was the cheerful sort, who always found a glass to be half full. Just as familiar trumpets began to sound, her phone rang. It was her best friend, Sissy. Did Lilly want to come watch the Olympics? On the new, 52-inch TV? Did she? Are you kidding? But Sissy had a Swedish grandpa. Lilly had to agree to root for Sweden in the Nordic skiing events. Hmm, thought Lilly. Hmmm. Tall, muscular Swedish men? In top aerobic condition, skiing their hearts out for 30 kilometers? Hela Sverige!

A few quick runs through her closet, and she found an ALMOST red polo, white jeans, and man's small navy blue cashmere v-neck. Lilly absolutely loved men's sweaters, very forgiving of too much guacamole, or cheesecake, for that matter. Add some gold flats for medal luck. Spectacular! Let the best man, woman, country, and athlete win.

Lilly Does Mardi Gras by High WASP featuring Lilly Pulitzer

Lilly still couldn't think of him as Brian. Somehow in her mind she kept calling him Edgy Guy. Hard to stop, given that she still wasn't sure if they were dating or not. Sure, they hung out. Sure, she realized as she thought about it that they had somehow wound up seeing each other almost every weekend since Sissy's wedding. And, yes, OK, some kissing had happened. But she just wasn't sure. The texting seemed accidental. Phone calls were almost non-existent. All the contact, exciting, fun, and different as it was, just didn't seem to be on purpose.

She wanted to know. Did he like her? As in, like her? Did she make his heart beat faster? Even a little bit?

Mardi Gras party time. Always fun, with her group of friends. Even the married ones seemed to get 5 years younger at Mardi Gras parties. Lilly looked forward to it. And to wearing her new pink Adelson shift with the gold lace. "Ha!" she thought, "It'll coordinate with my beads!" She decided to get daring. Added the Lilly Patent Croc wedges. In pink, of course. Piled on the beads, intertwined with a Murfee scarf for inimitable style. She looked in the mirror. Thought long and hard. And raised the feathered mask to her face. "Why not? she thought. "Why the heck not?"

Midnight. Face to face. Masks on. Does she have the courage? Can she ask him? "Do I make your heart beat faster?" Masks off. "Just for tonight, yes."

Adelson Shift Gold Lace ($278) Oh my Lord! What a GORGEOUS dress! Such a wonderful addition to any wardrobe. Classic, classy, simple, GORGEOUS! Must have!

Andover Dress Printed ($168) In my opinion, the Andover is one of the great shapes of the Lilly pantheon. I really like the pink and green print I have seen in this collection but also the Lawn Slubs as well.

Pearce Dress Novelty ($278) Scallops. What more is there to say?!? Tons of SCALLOPS! OBSESSED.

Bowen Dress Jacquard ($248) Oh, this dress is ADORABLE. The colors are SPOT ON! What a fun dress for a party!

Tori Dress Gator ($228) I like the classic lines of this dress. I also love that neckline!

Lilly was noticing a strange phenomenon. Her friends were getting married. That wasn't so strange. In fact, Lilly's mom often hinted that maybe single was stranger. Lilly ignored her. No, the strange part was how her married friends changed once they emerged from the bridal haze.

Take Sissy, for example. Back in the day, Sissy was all about sassy. Everything wildly pink and as short possible. Anything that wasn't pink, gold. Especially shoes and bags. No longer. When Sissy threw her first dinner party, she greeted Lilly at the door in a gorgeous Kaya dress, a Paley cardigan, and, apparently, a new commitment to the environment. Her shoes supported coral reefs around the world. "Oh dear," thought Lilly, "My shoes barely support my feet." Sissy did look fabulous. Happy. With a sinking feeling in her heart, Lilly entered the married-people-party. Everyone looked so, well, married. Settled. Intentional. Happy. Lilly sidled over to the bar, and asked Chip, Sissy's husband, for a glass of champagne. "Lilly!" cried Chip, "I wanted to introduce you to Bryan!" "Oh, no, I'm, I'm just, I'm...." Lilly couldn't think of anything to say to prevent yet another embarrassing hello-nice-to-meet you moment. She turned. Wait a minute. Wait just a minute here. Chip's cousin Bryan? He's the handsome, edgy, unsuitable guy from a few months ago. "Hello," said Lilly, "How nice to meet you."

Hello friends! The Lilly Pulitzer Home line with Garnet Hill has arrived! What do you think?! I am very happy with some of the items but I was also very surprised at how expensive some of the pieces were. One of the rugs is $498!

Now, I usually say that I wish Lilly would take a more upscale approach to their collaborations, but now that they have, I have to say I think the timing is off. Right now, with the economy the way it is, it would have been wise to follow in the footsteps of the last home line and offer more affordable pieces. I was also disappointed that there are not more bath accessories as they did last time. Perhaps those will come in a second wave of items. Having said that, I am already making mental plans about decorating rooms around these pieces! FAB!

Chinoiserie Bath Rug. I will definitely be purchasing these rugs for my bathroom. I love the design and the colors are spot on ($38-$78):

Chinoiserie Towels. I will buy these to match the rug but will save them for when guests come over. What a lovely scene these will make together! ($14-$32):

Leaf it to me Pillow Cover. Love the green color and LOVE LOVE LOVE the pom poms! I don't have a thing to go with this but I may buy it anyhow. Too cute to pass up! ($58):

OOH! Just in time to spend that cash you got for Christmas, the folks at Lilly have given us something NEW to covet! FUN!

Bowen Dress Embroidered ($298). Oh, I love this! What you can't see from far away is that there are darling little FISH in the embroidery. I really love this dress. Navy is SUCH a great color too. Super fabulous.

Lara Dress Printed ($248). This print is SO charming. I love the whole palm tree theme and it looks like it would be a flattering dress on most anyone. Good job, Lilly! Good job!

Seamus Dress Colorblocked ($298). We all know and love the Seamus. I'm just glad they listened and are giving it to us in so many different patterns! While Dirty Shirley remains my personal favorite, I have to say I LOVE this print. When I tried this dress on, it looked like I should be hosting some sort of fabulous cocktail party at my home in Palm Springs. Never mind that I don't have a home in Palm Springs.

Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Lilly!

Although those words don't usually go together in your mind, the Fashion Valley Lilly Pulitzer boutique is teaming up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Ronald McDonald House to host a special day of shopping and sharing at Lilly!

Here is a little more information about the Holiday Party: For 30 years, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of San Diego has been providing a Holiday Party, a break from illness, for hundreds of families of children with blood cancers. It is a day to forget their troubles and reunite with the community of families like theirs.

Ronald McDonald House is partnering with LLS for the second time. This means that together, we will also be hosting their patients and families, some staying in San Diego, far away from home, while a child in their family is in the hospital. Let's help make them feel the holiday spirit, too! This year we will host over 300 child patients and their often overlooked siblings, to lunch, crafts, fun entertainment, raffles and Santa, with gifts for everyone at the Sheraton Hotel. Everything must be donated, no funds are taken from the Society's mission to find a cure.

This sounds like such a lovely event! If you are in the area, I would highly recommend stopping by this event on Monday, November 30!

Warehouse Sale THIS WEEK!

Hello friends! Many of you will be attending the OFFICIAL Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale later this week in Pennsylvania. While I am just a tad too far to make it in myself (only around 3000 miles away...), I am excited to see what everyone brings back and what the experience was like.

I am tentatively planning to make the Spring 2010 Warehouse Sale next year, so watch out King of Prussia!

Will you be going to the sale? What are you hoping to find there? Lilly Lovers want to know!

While we are on the topic of sales and Lilly Pulitzer, many Lilly Lovers were VERY unhappy with the very first online Lilly sale. Lilly's Facebook page was inundated with negative comments: "This isn't a good sale, guys. Only a handful of things in a few sizes available. If you're going to promote heavily, you gotta have the stuff to back it up. Badly done." and "are you kidding I just woke up for this?" were just a few of them.

I signed on at 4:35a (7:35 EST), and was surprised by the limited selection. The prices were also a little higher than I expected. I suppose with the huge email campaign they put out I thought it may have been a bigger deal. Having said that, I hope that Lilly continues to provide Lilly Lovers with a chance to buy directly from them, and at a discount. Everyone loves to save money, especially in the current economy. Many Lilly Lovers picked up items they had been eyeing for ages such as the gorgeous Seamus dress and Kassidy dresses. There were also the exquisite jeweled clutches. The turquoise one retailed for $850 and was $249 during the sale. Now, that's a sale!

This is VERY exciting. Lilly is holding a video contest to coincide with "America Recycles Week" and the Reduce, Reuse, Re-Lilly movement! From what Janie says in the video below and some information on the Lilly site, to enter you must film a clip (less than two minutes long) explaining how you plan to reuse your Lilly in the future. It doesn't have to be professional, just a simple video.

I am sure an email will come out with more details and the official rules. How exciting! The prizes are as follows:

HOLY COW! This is REALLY exciting! This Thursday Lilly is having a BIG FINALE to the Jubilee year by hosting the FIRST EVER online sale on the Lilly website!!!! This is HUGE! Alas, for us West Coasters, the sale starts at 4a. You know what? I am setting my alarm for 3:30!!!! I will be honest, I think this is a smart move for Lilly. I always thought the warehouse sale should be held online. That way, people all over the US could get some great deals! The labor would probably sour the deal (someone needs to package and mail all those orders). It was a good thought, though. Wasn't it?

Hello friends! This weekend was the VERY exciting Lilly in-store event at the Fashion Valley mall in San Diego. One of the front windows was painted for "Lilly Goes Green" (see above) with the fun new logo!

Mira from Lilly Pulitzer headquarters was there and was so helpful and fun. There was a trunk show with all the fun new pieces and I tried just about every piece on! There was also champagne, snacks and coffee. The store was full and of course the Originals were looking snazzy!

I ended up buying the MUST HAVE Worth Shift in the Not-So-Crabby print:

The Worth shift is SUCH a great piece. Very Lilly and very darling. The Tradewinds capris are different from the other capris I own from Lilly. The fabric is really thick and they feel very comfortable. I LOVE my purchases. Of course the coming shipments are going to be DARLING too! There are some really fun tunics and dresses and I am super excited about the swimsuits being sold as separates now!

Lastly, I LOVE the Memsey dress. I haven't had a chance to try it on yet, but the lace detailing and cap sleeves are too adorable.

In the store this weekend I also saw they had the NEW ornaments in stock including a new set of "Oh Shift!" ornaments. Very cute. I had an AWESOME time at the event this weekend. They had EVERYTHING! I was really glad I picked up my very favorite pieces this weekend because a quick glance online showed me that Originals pieces are selling out fast! BOTH items I bought at Fashion Valley are sold out online in my size! EGADS! That's no joke!

There has been lots of chatter about this new piece from Resort, the Murfee scarf. Available in three different prints, it appears to be very popular and is flying off the shelves!

I had the oppurtunity to see the Murfee scarf at the Fashion Valley Lilly store and was really, well....not that impressed. It's quite soft and comes in darling prints but I suppose I was expecting a more WARM scarf. This one is more for decoration. Worn to look chic rather than worn to stay warm. Ah, well. To each their own. I wouldn't be upset if one of these turned up under my Christmas tree.

Hello friends! This weekend I had the honor of visiting the ONLY Lilly Pulitzer owned boutique in California in the famous FASHION VALLEY mall. It's always a treat when I can visit them and this visit was especially fabulous since they just got all their BRAND NEW Resort/Originals line in stock!

I had so much fun looking at it all in the pristine and beautiful store, but I am waiting to try it all on. Why would I do that?!? Well, because they are having a VERY special event IN-STORE on November 7!!!!

They will be having a special in-store event featuring a special guest from Lilly Pulitzer who will be doing one-on-one appointments with Lilly Lovers to determine which styles are best for your body type. I really need to calm down. This level of excitement is just too high. I may sprain something. Today, I woke up and KNEW I needed to wear my FAVORITE Lilly dress from AGES ago. I knew I had too much to do at work and if I wore it, things would be terrific!

Muffy sure does! Yesterday I was checking out the Lilly Facebook page and I learned about a new fan page called "We Love Vintage Lilly"! The woman that writes it is a girl after my own heart who REALLY loves Lilly. (Just like US!) Of course, like any over-zealous Lilly fan, I commented on just about every post she has. I am so excited about this page.

I left a comment on her page asking her if she would like to collaborate on a future post here (her favorite vintage patterns, perhaps?) so we will see if she takes me up on the offer. I sure hope she does!

Also while on Facebook I learned that Director of Design Janie Schoenborn has a twitter page now! You can find her at Twitter.com/xxLilly_Janie. I have noticed that Janie has taken on a more public image lately and has emerged as a sort of "face" of Lilly Pulitzer and I think that is a great idea for the brand. Janie is obviously very stylish and knowledgeable about the brand and I think she has the personality and intelligence to draw more people to Lilly while satisfying the curiosity of current Lilly lovers. Hello friends! I am BACK from my brief hiatus. I have been married and gone on a honeymoon and am now back at my desk, sneaking in a Lilly Lovers post as I work. I do hope you all have been well. Special thanks to Hopsy for blogging for me while I was out. I've read her posts and I just LOVE the insight she has given us! Hopefully she continues to give us scoop in the future! Thank you, Hopsy.

Now, some of you may remember my post on "the ones that got away" from a little while ago. I was BEYOND excited when darling SweetPea from Horse Hound and Home told me that she had the Andover in my size and had only worn it once and wanted to unload it. I even wore it to my wedding rehearsal! Nothing is more satisfying then finding some Lilly that got away.

Now, on Monday when I returned to work, I didn't have too many tasks to do and I was trying to "ease" myself back into the work week and I decided to go on eBay and see what Lilly was available. I really don't purchase very often on eBay, but I like to see old pieces (and remember that I have them in my own closet!) and old prints. It's the hobby of choice for those with a borderline unhealthy Lilly habit. ;)

I am rambling, I must get to the point! There it was!!!!!!!!!! The Lovell shift I had wanted and missed out on! In a 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just about died. I placed a ridiculous maximum bid on it (I had to be sure I got it!) and sat and my desk and refreshed. And refreshed. And refreshed. Well, I WON IT! The Lovell is finally MINE! I don't even have it yet and it is already my new favorite. Once it was no longer available, I realized how badly I needed it. I just wish I had it before the wedding. It would have loved to have worn it to the shower or even the rehearsal dinner! Oh, well. I have it now. Well, I will in 5-12 business days.

Lilly has been all over our TVs since the Fall line up hit our Living Rooms. First it was Gossip Girl, then Cougar Town and even SNL!

Did you happen to catch the Flight Announcement clip in September? The Eliza Top in Harbor Club Green($128) and the Riley Colorblock Cardigan in True Navy ($178). This outfit is a bit more trendy compared to some other pieces but it is super cute, very fun and even a bit flirty! It is great to see Lilly making its' way to more and more people across the globe!!

The Pink Mothership

When Muffy and I first connected via the preppy, Lilly loving blog world last summer she was starting a new trend by calling Lilly the mothership. I always referred to Lilly as the love of my life, but since meeting Muffy I now often call if the mothership too.

Before I visited last November I always wondered if the building really was pink and if so what shade it would be. Well, ladies, here you have it! It is a delightful shade of light pink, perhaps somewhat similar to Shell Pink? Or maybe even a mix of Shell and Phipps Pink? Either way, isn't it just lovely as can be. The Lilly Pulitzer Laurent Cardigan has arrived!! The silk, merino wool blend is ideal for the chilly weather and the ruffles and darling pearl buttons are too feminine to pass up! I tried this cardigan on last week while in the Dallas store and am at a loss as to what color to buy. I would wear pink almost daily, but black is such a wardrobe staple. Oh, decisions, decisions!

It's Hopsy here reporting from the Big D! I have just found some new photos of the Lilly Home line from Garnet Hill and thought it would be appropriate to spoil you this Wednesday.

What a fun patch quilt! I love the dainty, floral sheets too. I think I could totally make those work with my pink toile bedding! Look at the FUN shower line! Doesn't this print look similar to our beloved Snapdragon, just a new color scheme. Fabulous and classic! Also, I am not sure that darling elephant is Lilly, but it is a must have for any Lilly lover. Don't you agree? Makes bath time whimsical and fun!

I am obsessed with the Kaya and even more obsessed with the fact it comes in girls as well! For a long long long long time (a long time), I had always dreamed that when I grew up, I would have a photo of me in my shift, the Mr. in a matching tie and the baby in a minnie shift. Always. In fact, when Skipp and I were first dating and I would show him some of my favorite pictures on the old Lilly site he would say, "is that all I am to you? an accessory for your Lilly?" HAHAHA! Oh, Silly Skipp! Someone needs to buy this for themselves and their little one and send me a photo. Not joking. Too adorable.

Lilly's Niece Goes to School

Lilly's little niece had started kindergarten this year. Lilly loved her niece, and gave her an adorable outfit to celebrate. One day, Lilly even went with her sister on the morning trip to school. Lilly's sister whispered, "I'm glad I still have the little guy at home, otherwise I'd be a blubbering mess." Lilly understood. The cuteness of these two little ones was almost too much to bear. Pulling the car up into the roundabout, Lilly's sister turned around in her seat and said, "Get your stuff honey." "OK!" said the little girl. She grabbed her jacket, her backpack, and a box of BandAids. Off she ran, mini McKims flapping. "What's with the BandAids?" said Lilly. "Don't ask," laughed her sister. "And wait a minute, what happened to the matching pink hoodie I sent? Why is she wearing aqua?" "Oh Lilly," with a deep sigh, "If I've learned anything, it's pick your battles." Lilly realized at that point that she had a lot to learn about cute little children.

From WWD: Spring 2010s theme will be "Protective Prints," and will feature patterns of exotic and endangered animals, including the American crocodile and the Florida panther -- not to mention Pandamonium, a black-and-white print with pops of hot pink, which shows off the World Wildlife Fund's panda mascot. The company will donate 10 percent of sales generated from the panda print -- which will be featured on women's and children's dresses, a women's skirt, a toe and a men's blazer -- to the WWF.

Lilly sent out an email recently featuring her Top Ten picks for Fall! Let's check them out and see what we think!

#1) Soni Printed Turtleneck ($88) This turtleneck is a great way to keep your Lilly spirit when the weather cools down. It will keep you warm while showing off a lovely pattern. Also, the happy colors will brighten any gloomy day. This turtleneck can be worn multiple ways as well, I would layer it with other items in the same color family and have the print just peek out on top.

#2) Knot Just Another Flat ($198) I have gushed about this terrific shoe in the past (here). I think when it gets cold and rainy and we can no longer wear our Jacks (or Bonannos!) this is the perfect alternative. Chic and comfortable, these are the perfect shoes for Fall and I would MUCH prefer a pair of these to the similarly priced Tory Burch Revas.

#3) Keating Dress Printed Crinkle ($298) I think that this dress features such lovely Fall colors and is in such a charming Fall fabric (silk! luxurious!) that I completely understand why Lilly made it a Top Ten Must Have! You know I'm serious when I capitalize words like Must and Have.

#4) Shere Sweter Coat ($348) Must be honest. Not a huge fan of this sweater. It for another Lilly Lover who lives in another place and has another lifestyle. Just not me. Having said that, it looks very warm and comfy and for the right person, this would be a lovely piece to add to a Fall and Winter wardrobe. Read more of my thoughts on the Shere here. Must say I do love this pink color! Such a happy pop of color.

#5) Agnes Skirt Printed Twill ($98) LOVE twill. LOVE the prints this comes in. LOVE the under $100 price tag! LOVE THIS SKIRT! This would be a GREAT addition to a Fall wardrobe. When it gets REALLY cold, you could wear it with warm tights and even wellies! I agree. This really is a MUST HAVE.

#6) Mar-a-Lago Tote ($358) I love this bag. It's VERY chic, and the brown is SO complimentary to Fall colors. You could wear this bag with just about anything. The material also seems very plush. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this. Very fabulous. This bag was featured in the post "Get Carried Away!" that you can read here.

#7) Paley Ruffle Collar Cardigan ($148) This is a sweater that you could use for many seasons, not just Fall. The ruffle is such a big trend for Fall. #8) Rorey Top Printed Crinkle ($168) How do you do fabulous office professional for Fall? With this top, some nice slacks and some stellar heels. Of course if you are in a VERY stuffy industry this may only fly on Casual Fridays, but I still think it's a lovely top.

#9) Apple Dress ($168) This dress to me is sort of like the Andover for Fall. Very versatile, clearly a flattering cut and the price point is just right. No wonder it is a must have! It's the dress that has it all!

#10) 2010 Agenda ($25) This is an OBVIOUS must have! Every Lilly Lover should have one of these for the new year! LOVE IT! This would be such a great stocking stuffer too! FAB!

In TV Guide magazine this week*, there is a sneak peek from the newest installment of the Sex and the City movie franchise! The girls are all pictured in their "80s" gear, including Charlotte (above), who appears to be wearing a skirt from Lilly Pulitzer Resort 2009? It could be from the Spring 2010 line I suppose since the movie comes out next May, but I'll bet it's from Resort. I am fairly positive it is not vintage. I know vintage Lilly.

She is also carrying a Lilly Bermuda bag (love Bermuda bags!!!) and I suppose her green sweater could be a Paley cardigan, but that is purely speculation in this Lilly Lovers part! How exciting to see Lilly so prominently featured in a major studio production! Hope you are all having a spectacular Sunday in your Lilly!

Wednesday night the Madison Avenue Lilly store hosted "Aqua Art," a showing of the beautiful photographs of Christopher Pulitzer Leidy. Being that Christopher is Grandson to our one and only Lilly made this a CAN'T MISS event for the stylish Lilly Lovers in New York! Here are some photos of the event:

I am struck not only by the beauty of the photographs, but also by the townhouse! What lovely architecture. I can't wait to visit it in person (perhaps a stop on the way to the warehouse sale?)!

Once again the magnificent LPC has produced some winning Polyvores for us to enjoy! This time, Lilly is going to Manhattan!

Lilly's mom and dad were going to New York. Staying at the St. Regis. Lilly was moping, just a bit. Her mom asked why. Lilly, both wanting and not wanting to let her parents know, hoping they would say yes, afraid she was asking for too much, explained. Lilly had never been to New York. Little did she know that there was nothing her parents would like better than to take their daughter along. Hooray!

Lilly opened her suitcase. Time to pack. Hmm. She had read that everyone wore black in New York. Lilly wasn't much of a one for black. Navy was as close as she could get. Finally, she threw together some things and packed up. "Oh well," she thought, "I can buy black clothes when I get there."

It's Shadow Box Time!

I love hearing about how the folks at the Lilly design department come up with new patterns! It's so interesting a process. The new shadow box print is out and Design Director Janie has explained the origins of this print:

Hi guys!

So this season we started the design process with mini design boards of our favorite things. Each mini board was about 24” across. We had 16 of them! A lot. We filled an entire wall of the print studio. I find that when we make these little boards you kind of space out a bit…WHICH IS GOOD! I promise we do not live in la la land, but when you are designing print, spacing out is IMPORTANT. Maybe a better word for it is DREAMING. Yes, that’s it. Let me start over…
When we are designing prints we are either all laughing and talking and sharing ideas…or we are all kind of quiet and painting and DREAMING. HMMM. Maybe I will stop trying to explain our creative process, makes us sound like fruitcakes. MOVING ON!

Each print designer did a few mini-boards…some were just about feathers, others tassels, turtles, books…here are just a couple of examples…

BUT WHEN we put them all together it looked like a SHADOW BOX of special collected treasures. GOT US TO THINKING…or DREAMING about how we could do a uniquely Lilly patch for Fall. Every every every time we do a patch print everyone loves it and wants to buy it. But a Fall patch could be…EEK. So we went about it like a shadow box. Each area had something special in it. We hid peacock feathers, our la la lilly script, mini flowers…and even the texture of a
pineapple (go figure!).
THEN you add the rich beautiful colors for fall, the oranges and the blues and pinks – it has all that dimension of a true shadow box. I promise, even if we are in la la land, it all comes together in the end! XX

Lilly Plays Tennis by High WASP featuring Lilly Pulitzer

Lilly never told anyone at work that she was a really good tennis player. As in, really good. She hated to say anything. Once you tell people you've been ranked in the state playing for fun it's over. She went to the company Labor Day picnic fully expecting to lunch, and drink, and laze in the sun. She told herself she wore the yellow skort because it was so cute. She told herself she wore the halter polo because of the heat. The tennis gear was already in the back seat of her car, now wasn't it? When it turned out that the division head's doubles partner was hobbled by a sprained ankle, what was Lilly to do? Let the poor man lose? Everyone knew how he felt about losing. Lilly was happy to help out. A purely humanitarian gesture. As they walked off the court, blatantly victorious, she knew from the looks on the faces in the bleachers that her cover was blown. Sometimes you just have to let your light out from under the bushel.

Boy, do I have some FABULOUS news for you, Lilly Lovers! After my post, "Please! Take my money!" about my quest to find the sold out Andover, lovely reader SweetPea from Horse, Hound and Home emailed me to let me know she happened to own a rarely worn size 8 Andover Dress is multi patch fresh and fruity!

My dreams have been answered! I will finally own BOTH patterns in the OH-SO-FLATTERING Andover. I really do think it is one of the best dresses (for my body type at least) Lilly has made in quite a while. It also has a vintage feel, like the original Lilly dresses. I understand it was a popular style, too. Full price was only $168, low for a Lilly, and perhaps that helped spur its popularity.

I really hope that the folks over at Lilly decide to bring this dress back in future seasons (perhaps Resort??) in new patterns. That would be INCREDIBLE, don't you agree? Have a lovely Friday, Lilly Lovers!

This morning we were pleasantly surprised to see the SHERE sweater coat! The sweater coat is pictured in four colors, but only the black, deep cyan and newberry pink are available online. I'm going to be honest, I don't think I'm a fan of this sweater. Looks a little too loose and floppy for my taste. Even so, I'll have to see it in store to make a final judgement.

I got an email today with a very official “report” (here you picture me wearing horn rimmed glasses now, very 80’s chic, reading a ‘report’ from some kind of space age computer)…anyway this report said…you love the peacock dress! How does a “report” tell me what you love? Well because you almost bought every one we have out there. GEEZ, were you waiting for this or what?!! Did the catalog get you jazzed? And of course I’ve been tuned into our facebook page and saw that many of you loved the dress…some of you were not quite sure if we have lost our minds so, the answer to that is…we have most certainly lost our minds but that is how we ROLL! And thank goodness, because the PEACOCK is a hit!

So, we did something a bit different this Fall. That gorgeous, sophisticated, slighty humorous and definitely chic peacock is our statement piece. The artist behind that beautiful bird is Rebecca Allred and she has been a Lilly print designer for over 13 years. So she knows her way around a Lilly print! Not only did she do the peacock, but she had another print I must tell you a story about.

One day over a year ago I said to Rebecca: “I have to go out to an appointment you MUST MUST MUST paint me a gorgeous painting today.” So she sat down to the long work table in the print studio and resting there was…a perfect little trinket box.
It was there because we have been talking about techniques and textures and we had the studio filled with everything from peacock feathers, to feather dusters (our ‘frenchie print came from the feather duster!), to books covered in marbled paper. And let’s be honest we just like cool stuff in our print studio, do you ever need an excuse to have a trinket box? Here are some of our beautiful feathers…

As fate would have it, the egg crackle box was the first thing she saw. She grabbed her paints…we use the INCREDIBLE Dr. Martin’s CONCENTRATED watercolor paint…

And she painted this print CRACK ME UP. My absolute favorite part about this is the hidden bird that she put in and among the crackle. It is SO PRETTY and soft for something that seems hard like a cracked egg shell. We all instantly fell in love with this print.

One of our most wonderful designers suggested that the
print was so great we could use it in 2 scales…and that ourmost chic customers would understand to wear them together. (You’ve all seen the catalog right?) We even designed a PERFECT blue sweater (check outthe Wright Rib Cardigan) to go over the whole outfit if you want and…ahhhh…that’s design magic!

Today we received the newest email from Lilly Pulitzer introducing us to the Sandpiper Dress featuring a large peacock on it. The dress is $298 and is already sold out in a size 12, so it must be very popular (see description below, they called it)! I have mixed feelings about it myself, that peacock seems awfully large, but I will withhold judgement until I see it in store.

....just give me something pink and green in a size 8, 10, 12 or 14!!!! HAHA. Thursday I went to "The Sale Shack" website (C. Orrico's online outlet), to see what was new and on sale! I love the sale shack. They have so much to offer!

I saw the Andover dress (a dress I own in tide blue shaken up) in my size (8) in the multi fresh and fruity patch! I was so excited!! After some thought, I decided to buy it....I couldn't let it get away!

Today, I got an email from the super nice people at C. Orrico letting me know the dress had actually sold out. BUMMER. I decided to get something else! I asked if the Lovell shift (in Lillys Pink Tiger Lilly!) was still available in a 12 or 14, but it was sold out too! Double bummer! I had tried on the 14 in store and it was big, but just a little. I know the 12 would be perfect, but all they have is a 10. I think that might be too small.

I decided I just HAD to get something in the Lillys Pink Tiger Lilly pattern, so I decided to ask if the fiesta dress was available in a 14 since I had heard from pals that it runs small. Of course, someone already bought that one too! Triple bummer.

Perhaps the Lord was trying to say, "Hey, Muffy! You've got enough Lilly! Chill a little bit!" but what I am taking with me is this: when you hear there are additional markdowns going on, don't take the time to think about it...BUY IT NOW! You can always sell it on eBay if it doesn't fit! HAHAHA! Lessons for a Lilly Lover, here at the Lilly Lovers Blog!

Lilly Pulitzer director of design Janie Schoenborn took to the Lilly blog to post about new prints and collaborations coming up! Very exciting to hear the latest straight from Janie! Here is what Janie had to say:

Lilly Land Meet Janie….Janie, Lilly Land…. now that you’ve all been introduced here’s a peak into her very crazy, always exciting and never dull (in regards to color) world at Lilly.
What are we up to? Well the center of my universe is the Lilly Pulitzer print studio. We are usually painting. Right now we have been extremely focused on things that are waaaaay too top secret to tell you. But things LEAK. I was pleasantly surprised to see the WWD article ran announcing our super cool program for Spring 2010 with LeSportSac. Since that has ended up on OTHER blogs let me give you a behind the scenes….
For Spring 2010 we are working on saving the world. As usual. Par for the course. No really, there were so many animals that we were jamming into prints we thought…let’s raise awareness for endangered species. So someone called someone else important, we got the red light, were designing prints when…our marketing team hooked-up with le Sport Sac and the rest is soon-to-be history.
LeSportSac is chic because you can wear it anytime, anywhere. It is a print driven brand and so are we. Sounds simple right. My first meeting was with their creative director (she is French and defines the word chic) and director of this and another manger of blah blah. All very very very lovely people. They showed me the millions of shapes that they have run of the years. Did you know they were founded in 1974 (which is ah-hem whisper whisper, around the time that I was born. I lie about my age so I will tell you I am younger by a tid-bit). Needless to say they have a lot of bag shapes to play with.
Am I going to get in trouble? What am I allowed to spill. EEK. Ok, so I am going to gloss over exactly what shapes. But I will tell you that YES, we have a tennis bag (loooooove it) and we have all sizes of the weekender. I KNOW that we are all looking for an updated modern weekender and now we have an answer, no matter how much you need to pack. There are make-up bags, totes, day bags. There are LOTS OF BAGS.
The prints. Now this info I think has leaked, so let me give you the behind the scenes. We have 3 prints coming. First delivery is (I forget when…hmmm..around January/Feb) is a patch with all of our ‘big cats’ included. This print is exclusive to le Sport Sac and will not be on our apparel. It holds bits of prints that will be on the line, and others (like a blue/coral ikat leopard) that isnot on the line but MAAAAYBE should have been. I’m just saying…
So…cats? Well, you know Lilly loves little kitty cats and has tons of them. Lost count how many are running around that place. But there are so many big cats that are endangered. We have tigers and leopards, florida panthers and cougars (my running joke is that they are endangered expect for on the island of palm beach..hee hee). The colors are an awesome turquoise and coral, trimmed in navy. PERFECT for that time of year. I think all these guys are in the bag

Hello all. Today we have a brand new feature for Lilly Lovers! LPC from Privilege has a knack for making exquisite Polyvore spreads. She has graciously offered to make a few new Polyvores using Lilly in unconventional ways. We all wear Lilly casually, but what about if you have a corporate job? Today LPC has crafted "Lilly Gets A Big Promotion" and I LOVE it.

The day Lilly got her big promotion she listened respectfully to the VP's compliments. "Thank you so much," she said. "This is a big responsibility. I am very happy you've been pleased with my performance, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow." What can we say? Lilly had a gift for the corporate life, she knew how to follow a business professional dress code - right on the edge. navy jacket, chocolate ballerina flats, a conservative but fashionable matching brown bag. Can't get more correct. With just the right pop of trademark Lilly color to make her mark. Lilly also knew two important things. 1. When in doubt, tone down color with a navy jacket. 2. If you are going to up your fashion game, you have to up your work results to boot.

SPOTTED: Lilly in Martha Stewart Living!

Lilly Pulitzer was prominently featured in the August Martha Stewart Living! The article was "The Originals- Invest in pieces with a past and they'll remain your favorites well into the future." The Tori dress was the focal point of this page, alongside Bernardo sandals, espadrilles and J. Press Ribbon Belts.

The text reads:

What a great mention! I also hadn't noticed how very lovely the Tori dress is as well. This little article has put the Tori MUCH higher on my lilly wish list! If you'd like to see this feature for yourself, it is on page 57 of the August issue.

Heather from Mint Juleps and Magnolias not only shared with us her story of being the very first Lilly Lover to find the Florida's Natural juice, she has also shared with us some photos of GORGEOUS quilts her Grandmother has crafted using Lilly fabric.

Heather's motto has always been, "Wear a Little Lilly Every Day!" and she is really living that motto! Being a Kentuckian and a huge horse racing fan, her Grandmother made her a quilt with a Derby-themed Low Riders print. Isn't that just the end?!?

WOW. Where can I get one?!? She also sent some photos of another quilt that is just so bright and happy, it leaps off the page.

Mint Juleps and Magnolias

Hello friends! We have quite a treat today! Heather from Mint Juleps and Magnolias has written us all about her experience being the FIRST Lilly Lover to find the Florida's Natural Lilly-fied Grapefruit Juice! How very exciting!

Not only that, but she has been kind enough to share with us some pictures of the GORGEOUS quilts her Grandmother has made using Lilly fabric. First, let's talk about the dress she won!!!!

Heather writes:

About a month ago, Mr. Magnolia and I were doing our customary Sunday morning grocery shopping when I found the Special Edition Lilly Florida's Natural grapefruit juice at my local Kroger.

I was so excited. As y'all know, I love Lilly P. a lot. Mr. Magnolia and I also love to support pink ribbon charities. We have a lot of close relatives that have been affected by breast cancer, so we always run and conduct fundraisers for our local Race for the Cure, and we try to buy as many products as possible that support women's cancer charities. Plus, we actually really like grapefruit juice. So, it made perfect sense to pick up a couple of containers.

I'd gotten the Lilly email blasts and Facebook updates which announced the photo contest; the first person who uploaded a photo of herself with the juice to Lilly's Facebook page would win a Lilly dress. I looked pretty
skanky, since we'd gotten up for brunch and groceries without really getting cleaned up, but I thought it was worth submitting a photo.

Guess what? I won! :)

A few weeks later, an awesome package arrived. One that was addressed to me, from Lilly. Inside was cute tissue paper which said, in the most delicate of lettering, "It started with a juice stand." It was the Sherman tunic! I picked this one after seeing it in my local Lilly store. It was a little more casual than the Lilly dresses I normally pick out. I thought it would be cool to get something a little different as my "free" dress. I'm so glad I did! This one is a linen/cotton blend that has been fabulous for
dinner, drinks, running errands, or just enjoying the summer. Of course, it came with a note from the staff at Lilly!

After this great experience, Mr. Magnolia and I try to pick up the "Lilly juice", as it is now known at our house, every week. It's delicious, and makes our fridge look like party central! I keep meaning to pick up a bottle of vodka to make an Absolut Lilly.
